Repenser l’histoire d’art

With Bénédicte Savoy, El Hadji Malick Ndiaye and Ibou Coulibaly Diop

UNEXPECTED LESSONS – Decolonizing Memory and Knowledge, June 11-12 2021 at Academy of the Arts, Berlin, in Nairobi and online. Panel discussion with Bénédicte Savoy (Art historian), El Hadji Malick Ndiaye (Art historian, curator) Moderation: Ibou Coulibaly Diop (Literary scholar)

FOR A DECOLONIAL HISTORY OF ART

The rewriting of the history of art is placed in the global context of the revision of History which is a fundamental axis of the decolonial critique. The methods of History as a discipline are deeply rooted in historically situated cultural universes and rationalities. To rewrite the histories of the art thus necessarily requires a small historical recall and an inventory of the works registered in the decolonization of the knowledge to better apprehend the mechanisms of construction of a decolonial history of the art.
