WRITING OBJECTS invites twelve Berlin-based authors to engage with an object of their choice from a Berlin museum collection connected to personal or collective memory – from the Museum der Dinge: Werkbundarchiv, the Museum of Decorative Arts (Kunstgewerbemuseum) or the Museum of European Cultures in Berlin.
Participating authors: Aida Baghernejad, Asal Dardan, Ciani-Sophia Hoeder, emet ezell, Emilia Roig, hn.lyonga & David Odiase, Joe Otim Dramiga, Lene Albrecht, Lin Hierse, Mithu Sanyal, and Sinthujan Varatharajah.
Museum objects are archives with complex histories. WRITING OBJECTS makes and holds space for remembering through subjective object observations, stories and fictions. Because nothing can be more private and intimate than the objects that surround us, that accompany us in life, through flight, resistance and migration, that we use every day or that we keep as souvenirs, as memories.
With the resulting collection of texts, the culture of remembrance and museum work become a polyphonic joint project that activates political and social issues of our time.
WRITING OBJECTS is curated by Celina Baljeet Basra and Isabel Raabe.
Funded by the Berlin Senate's Project Fund for Contemporary History and Culture of Remembrance.
